Let's talk Staples..

I want to get into the foods I ALWAYS have in my house..and these are probably the foods I would grab if my house burned down and I needed to grab everything in 30 seconds..Husband, kids, coffee, grapefruit- u get the drift..

So in my home these are the foods I cannot live without..

COFFEE- a self proclaimed addict I brew Starbucks coffee every morning and generally unfortunately finish the pot..If I dont have time to brew I'll make a quick Turkish Coffee..like I've said before I dont encourage this much coffee drinking its a bad habit I'm very much trying to break...
ALMOND MILK- I love almond milk- I have it in my coffee, with cereal, mixed with sugar free fat free pudding, in my oatmeal creations, my attempting to make healthy cookies...almost everything! Its very very low in calories and all natural, unsweetened, 40 calories for 8 ounces- who could pass that up! I buy the blue diamond type...
FRUITS- I need a grapefruit every morning, cant start my day without it so there are always grapefruits in my house- to the point where if I dont have one poor Eli will leave the house in the middle of night to get me one-obsessive much? I also will stock up on apples, oranges, and other fruits here and there for Chaya's lunch. I am a big fruit lover, I could live on fruit and if ever I need to lose weight it is the hardest thing for me to give up. Like I said I'm a big portions girl, and eat a lot so if its in the house I eat it. On the weekends, over Shabbat when I let myself live a little I will have my "special fruits" that I dont particularly eat during the week- pineapple, grapes, peaches, mangoes- etc..the super sweet ones that I just cant get enough of!
VEGGIES- I buy the romaine lettuce from Traders, spinach, cherry tomatoes, Roma tomatoes, cucumbers, zuccinis, yellow squash, onions, peppers, carrots, and pickles!! Yes, pickles are considered a veggie and a damn good one! I use lots of veggies all week for omelettes, salads, stir fries, roasting, everything!! If I need a snack I love baby carrots and snap peas- they're also super easy to bring places..I'll buy other random veggies here and there but mentioned above are staples I always have in my house..
STARCHY VEGGIES: I love sweet potatoes, butternut squash and acorn squash..especially now in the fall I just cant walk by the butternut squash and not buy them- so so good..and u can do some much with them..generally I'll just chop up, sprinkle cinamon and roast in oven at 425 for 45 minutes..so freakin good!
MY GO TO CARBS: I always have brown rice, oatmeal, and sweet potatoes in the house. I feel that they are the most filling and the best carbs out there for you. Quinoa, ezekial bread, whole wheat products, etc are also great alternatives but I've found that my staple 3 are the most filling and easiest to adapt in any recipie..
PROTEINS: During the week I eat a hell of a lot of egg whites, chicken breast, and ground turkey. Unfortunately my husband and daughter could live on hot dogs so I generally have to make a different dinner for them which adds ground beef, steaks, hot dogs, chicken thighs etc to my staple list..
Misc- I also have lots of green tea, lemons, soy sauce, spices, ketchup, tomato sauce, chumus,  almond butter, peanut butter, olive oil, sugar free fat free pudding, peanut butter puffins, and soy ice cream!

I'm sure theres many things I've missed out- point being-if you keep to same eating habits throughout the week its a lot easier to shop for-prep for- and stick with throughout the week..

Oh, and lunch was grilled chicken, sweet potatoes, roasted cauliflower, and black bean salsa..
